Remove crystal protection

Supplies:

  • Plastic tweezers or fingertips;
  • Microfiber cloth;
  • (Optional) Hair dryer;
  • (Optional) Isopropyl alcohol diluted with water (IPA, 50% or lower), Special residue removers for screens, sticker removal wipes that are safe for screens.

Step-by-step crystal protector removal


  1. Choose the right moment
    Work at room temperature (18–25°C).
    No direct sunlight.
    Watch must be clean and dry.
    If the room temperature is below 18°C ​​or if the crystal protector is strongly attached, a hairdryer on a low setting can be used to soften the crystal protector. Be careful not to exceed the operating temperature specified by the specific watch manufacturer.


  2. Slowly pull off the crystal protector.
    Start at a corner or edge (preferably where the crystal protector ends).
    Using your fingertips or a plastic spatula, peel off a starting point.
    Pull at a 30–45 degree angle, slowly and evenly.
    o Do not pull straight up (90°).
    o Heat the crystal protector if it is difficult to remove or cracks.


  3. Remove adhesive residue (if present)
    Usually the crystal protector leaves little or no adhesive behind, but if necessary use one of the following:
    o 1 to 1 diluted isopropyl alcohol with water
    o Special residue removers for screens
    o Sticker removal wipes that are safe for screens
    Apply the diluted isopropyl alcohol or Special residue removers for screens to a microfiber cloth
    Gently wipe the cloth over the surface.
    Wipe immediately with a damp cloth to remove any residue
    Never allow to soak or dry on the appliance.


  4. Clean the watch
    Wash the surface with a pH neutral cleaning product and a soft brush.
    Rinse away dirt and cleaning residue with water.
    Dry with a microfiber cloth.

⚠️Important Tips & Warnings
Do not use metal tools that may scratch the watch.
Do not force or pull too quickly. Heat (hair dryer) if the crystal protector is cold or old.
When in doubt: Ask your jeweler to remove the crystal protector.
